International Candidates must complete the Rutgers Affidavit of Support Form for International Students in addition to the application for the School of Law. All foreign transcripts must be submitted through the LSAC JD Credential Assembly Service. This service is included in the LSDAS subscription fee. Your transcripts will be translated, if necessary, and evaluated. Please request that your TOEFL score be sent to LSAC. LSAC's TOEFL code for the JD Credential Assembly Service is 0058.

Please keep in mind that our law school does not accept credits in transfer from schools outside of the United States. You will be expected to have completed all of the requirements of a U.S. undergraduate degree in order to apply as a first-year student. If you do not have the equivalent of an undergraduate degree in the United States, you should contact the Rutgers Undergraduate Admissions Office at 856-225-6104 or visit our website for information about obtaining your undergraduate degree.

An international student applying for admissions to the School of Law must:

  • Submit a law school application (or apply on-line) and non-refundable $65.00 fee.
  • Submit foreign transcripts through the LSAC JD Credential Assembly Service
  • If English is not your native language, you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). For information, contact Test of English as a Foreign Language, PO Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151.
  • Request that your TOEFL score be sent to LSAC. LSAC's TOEFL code for the JD Credential Assembly Service is 0058.
  • Take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) no later than December preceding the year of desired
entry into law school. The test score will be valid for up to three years.
  • Complete and return the Affidavit of Support form (I-143) along with the necessary documentation.

Our faculty and admissions committee require that all students applying to the law school have the results of
the LSAT (see above) and this policy includes foreign attorneys.

Please contact our office should you have additional questions regarding admission requirements.
